Culture in Australia

 

Australia is a multicultural country with immigrants from many countries. English is the main language of instruction that unites these different cultures. Australia is a safe country with a very low crime rate. Even so, don't be careless and always take good care of your important luggage at any time and anywhere. Living in a foreign country for the first time can be confusing and unsettling for everyone. But by studying the culture and lifestyle of the country first, you will get a clearer picture and be able to prepare yourself to adapt to this new environment. Australians are known for their easy-going personalities. At first you may feel unfamiliar, especially if you come from a country with a fast pace of life. But over time, you will find that Australians are very genuine and friendly.

1. Campus Culture 

The campus atmosphere in Australia is very informal and free. All campuses have their own uniqueness. The majority of campuses have a friendly culture and welcome newcomers. In fact, almost every campus provides a special department to serve and assist international students. The campus staff is very friendly and helpful. Students can come and talk about anything, including things outside of class. Campuses in Australia highly value the opinions and views of each of their students. Australia's population is not among the largest in the world, relations between citizens are quite good. They are all happy to hang out with anyone. So you don't need to hesitate to start a conversation with them.

2. Give Greetings 

If you are meeting someone for the first time, giving a handshake with your right hand is the most common way. Australians usually say 'G'day, mate' to their friends. But if you're not a local, it's best to start your greeting with 'Hello' and 'How are you?' Australians are very casual and informal when it comes to greetings, so you shouldn't be too awkward. Australians introduce themselves by their first name. To show that you're really listening and paying attention, make eye contact with them.

3. Attending an Invitation 

Culture Australia is included in Western culture which is influenced by Asian culture. In Australia there are also aboriginal tribes who have lived in Australia since 60,000 years ago. 

If you're invited to a barbecue or other party, bring a drink like wine or beer to share. You can also contact the host and ask if you have anything to bring to the party. If you're invited to a dinner party, bring flowers or chocolates as gifts. 

Table manners in Australia are quite continental. When eating, use a knife with your right hand, and don't stick your elbow on the table while eating.

4. Sports 

The majority of Australians love sports. They never miss a sporting event and always take every opportunity they get to participate in sporting activities. Australians also enjoy water sports, both in the pool and even in the sea. If you want to mingle with the locals, getting involved in sporting activities is the best way.

5. Art and Music 

Australia is also known for its art galleries and museums. Each state has a symphony orchestra. Through these facilities, you have the opportunity to learn more about Australian history.
